Cork
Cork ended their use of pesticides in 2022 due to a large amount of public support and the support of politicians as well.
“Within dlrs Cleansing section we have adopted a best practice approach to weed control in accordance with EC Directive 2009/128. As per this directive, we have incorporated a Weed Control Programme whereby we have moved away from the use of glyphosate-based chemicals and our principle weed removal process is through manual removal.” - excerpt taken from Herbicides use in Councils tracker.

Wicklow
County Wicklow ended its use of pesticides in 2022. Wicklow’s policy is the best we’ve seen thus far. Please see link for full document.

Dublin
Dublin also went pesticide free because of public support.

Westmeath
County Westmeath has an extremely detailed policy on ending pesticide use. With an emphasis on reevaluating what public spaces should look like.
“With all of these issues we are calling for a more balanced and biodiversity friendly approach to be integrated into council policy. A change in mindset is needed. The aesthetic needs to be reevaluated and our idea of what our public spaces should look like needs to change.”
